Production of Leather

Leather is a natural product obtained from the preparation and tanning of animal hides. The production process that leather goes through before the stage when it is crafted into usable items, is a lengthy and fascinating one. The animal hide, needs to be properly prepared, and tanned in order to prevent putrefaction, i.e. the decay of the skin

Most leather manufacturers use three stages to describe the production process. They are preparation, tanning and crusting.
